Trumpeter Rachel Therrien’s eighth album Mi Hogar II continues her exploration of Latin jazz, building upon the foundation she laid with her 2023 release Mi Hogar. The title, which translates to “my home”, reflects Therrien’s deep connection to her musical community and the myriad influences that have shaped her sound.
In Mi Hogar II, Therrien collaborates with a distinguished ensemble of musicians, enriching the album’s sonic palette. Notable guest artists include the legendary bassist John Benítez; the acclaimed Cuban-Canadian duo OKAN; Cuban piano virtuoso Danae Olano; Grammy-winning vocalist and violinist Mireya Ramos; renowned Cuban pianist and composer Manuel Valera; powerhouse Cuban percussionist Keisel Jiménez; and the powerful and expressive Puerto Rican saxophonist Iván Renta.
The album features a diverse array of compositions, including Benitez’s lively changuii Fiestas Campesinas, the introspective Back Home, and the original arrangement of Mambo ‘Chucho’ Influenciado. Each piece reflects Therrien’s commitment to blending traditional Latin rhythms with contemporary jazz elements.

About Rachel Therrien:
An acclaimed trumpeter, composer, and producer with eight solo albums and four music producer credits, Rachel has earned an international reputation for her versatility and bold musical instincts. She has been nominated at ADISQ for Mi Hogar and VENA, at the JUNOs for VENA (which earned four stars from DownBeat), and at the GRAMMYs for Virtual Birdland with the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra. In addition to her own projects, she has performed with major artists including Arturo O’Farrill, Ron Carter, Joe Lovano, Claudio Roditi, Jon Faddis, Tony Allen, Roberto Fonseca, and many others. Rachel is also an active member of several ensembles, such as the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, The Ostara Project, DIVA Jazz Orchestra, and the Canadian National Jazz Orchestra. She shares her experience through private teaching and educational programs like Jazz House Kids in Montclair, NJ.
