About
Nominated for best Jazz Album at the 2021 JUNO Awards, Rachel Therrien’s european quartet “VENA” was born after an european tour where she had to hire local musicians. Following the many concerts, they developed a great musical chemistry as well as a great friendship.
They recorded Rachel’s 5th album in Paris in May 2019 at Studio de Meudon, counting 15 new original compositions. “VENA” was released under French Label Bonsaï Musique is currently touring Europe.
Dario Guibert (Bass – Madrid)
Mareike Wiening (Drums – Cologne / New York)
Daniel Gassin (Piano – Paris)
Rachel Therrien (Trumpet – New York / Montreal).
The four musicians represent a perfect parity under Rachel’s new formation, which is for her a way of helping creating change. “I want to play with who I feel like playing with, and this time, my favourite ensemble happens to represent both gender equally. There is no better example of equality than Parity”
This fun coincidence gave her inspirations for new compositions where Rachel infuse each member’s musical influences to add a new “European Color” to her unique voice.
